“The colors in this piece represent the people in the neighborhood. We are in this world co-existing so it’s important we remember to always do right by others.”
I was asked to paint a mural designed by the talented Vanessa Rivera. I don’t usually paint murals that I didn’t design, but this one really spoke to me. “The Time is Always Right To Do What is Right”. Words spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr on October 22, 1964 during his speech on “The Future of Integration” at Oberlin. Although it wasn’t the only time he spoke on this, it was the one time this line was said.
Our nation was going through much hardship and many challenges at this time. From the civil rights movement, to the war in Vietnam. Dr King and his speeches were vital to the growth and future of Integration. “The time is always right to do what is right” words of concern for the future at that moment. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only the light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only Love can do that” MLK
